The Pietà (Italian for “pity” or “compassion”) depicts the Virgin Mary cradling the dead body of Jesus after the Crucifixion, representing her (sixth) sorrow. It symbolizes profound grief, maternal love, and silent, faith-filled acceptance of the sacrifice.
How the Devil Lost at the Cross
In the Garden of Eden, Eve reached out and stole the forbidden fruit from the tree. Through her disobedience, sin and death entered the world. But God had a beautiful plan of redemption. At the foot of the cross - the new tree of life - stood the Blessed Virgin Mary, the new Eve. There in the perfect obedience and love, she gave back what Eve had Stolen. She offered the fruit of her womb, her son Jesus Christ, for the salvation of all humanity.
